Reflection on SSUG Nov 2022
After two days at Spectrum Storage User Group in Kista, Sweden with 2 full days of latest new about IBM Spectrum Protect, IBM Spectrum Scale, IBM Spectrum Virtualize, future of IT and end-user stories from Kungliga Biblioteket and Karolinska Institutet MEB, I can’t say it couldn’t be better, more inspiring and impressive how a local User-Group Event can deliver so much knowledge and be open to share ideas between each other. But also get so much attention from speaker all over the world, where we had speakers from New Zealand, West Cost USA, Germany, England, Finland and of course Sweden.
The first day did Thomas (Picture above) present “What is data and what can we do with the data”
We did also get the latest news About IBM Spectrum Protect (SP) and Spectrum Protect Plus (SPP) where they have put a lot of effort into security that I think is extremely important, to be able to reduce the risk of ransomware attacks and human failures, but also how to protect Docker Containers in Kubernetes and latest update for VMware protections. The latest cool feature that IBM has come out with is IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Online Services that protect entire Microsoft 365 portfolio such SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Groups, OneDrive and much more that either can be saved to Azure Blob Storage that are included in the license but also direct to SP S3 Object Agent so you have your M365 data in your own Spectrum Protect Server.
Jason Basler and Jim Smith went though the roadmap with us that we can’t share public, but it really look good and for they who missed SSUG, make sure you are with us next time.
Days 2 when Ram Parasuraman that was former Senior Director at Cohesity now working for IBM presented his vision on Cyber Resiliency and data protection, it was a really interesting topic where he spoke about not only about restore and disaster recovery, he also touch based Threat Recovery that are next level of a traditional Disaster Recovery. When we got our change to sit one-to-one with Ram we introducing our new hot buzz word “Backup-as-Code”, and that is something that is extremely fit in to Threat Recovery, we are really looking forward to our next meeting in December.
